Melody is an advisory board member and student mentor for the Association of Placenta Preparation Arts. In addition to these roles, she owns her own business and works as a birth doula, childbirth educator, and placenta encapsulator in Southern Wisconsin. In 2007, she graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater with a bachelors degree in chemistry and a minor in sociology. Her career led her to work in chemical manufacturing and as a lab manager for a municipal department. She worked closely with regulatory agencies, and was personally responsible for writing and maintaining technical, regulatory, and safety documents. In 2012, the lab she managed was awarded Registered Laboratory of the Year award for a large lab from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
